Olive Island - Preko |
Ugljan Island as pronounced in Croatian is known as Olive Island.
There is a boat and ferry that goes to a town called Preko on Olive Island from Zadar. The boat ride is only 25 minutes. The town of Preko is very beautiful with many crystal clear beaches. You do not need a car to explore Preko. My favorite place to go swimming is next to the small Island called Skoljic in Preko. There are many restaurants and cafes to choose from. http://tz.preko.hr/en |
There is a passenger boat that goes to Preko from the old city in Zadar. The boat is called Dora, sometimes another boat fills in, so ask when you buy tickets. See link below. Times given are departure times.

Island of Pag |
The Island of Pag is very beautiful it is mostly rocky but very interesting to see. Pag is connected to Zadar by a bridge. This is why the best form of travel is by car. On the Island there is a town also called Pag which is nice to visit and only a 30 minute drive from Zadar. Pag is also well know for its local production of cheese, It is considered the best in Croatia.
There is also a town called Novalja on Pag which is known as party town. Their beach Zrce operates all night with many disco clubs right on the beach-considered Ibiza of Croatia. http://www.tzgpag.hr/en/ http://www.visitnovalja.hr/ |

Dugi Otok - Sakarun Beach
The translation of Dugi Otok means Long Island.
One the best beaches in Croatia is located there. This amazing beach is called Sakarun. This day trip is possible from Zadar however only on Sunday's due to the boat schedule. The boat leaves from the old city of Zadar at 8:15 on Sunday morning. You buy tickets to go to Bozava, a town on Dugi Otok. Tickets are sold at the Jadrolinija office in Zadar. The boat makes 2 stops before Bozava and you will arrive at 9:25. Once you get to Bozava ask to make sure that your return ticket is valid because on the way back the boat has limited seats. Once you get to Bozava there is a tracktor train that leaves in front of the hotel to the beach Sakarun. There is a small charge for the train. The boat leaves at 19:00 back to Zadar so don't be late. At the beach there are a couple of fast food stands, but I advise you pack some food and drinks. Enjoy this best kept secret of this miraculous beach. http://www.dugiotok.hr/en |
